Bible Passage(s): Psalm 46
Memory Verse: “There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’’ Psalm 46: 4 – 7
Nigeria marks her independence from colonialism today, 1st of October. Then and as it is today, Nigeria and Nigerians roll out the drums in celebration every year. She is no more under the rule of Great Britain! We now rule and govern ourselves and hope to become a great independent nation.
Alas, with happenings in the last 58 years, can we say that Nigeria is really truly free? Yes we are free from the rule and lordship of the white man, but no sooner did the dust clear from the fiercely retreating army of occupation, than we heard martial music! Nigerians in jack booths and khaki, complete with arms, ran roughshod over the land, coming and going, dancing to the tune of martial music. Each time they come, we are told they are here to right the wrongs of the previous regime. Unfortunately they end up doing worse than the evil they claim to come and correct! Between them; our jack booth overlords and Agbada or Babaringa emperors, they have been running a rampage over the land for 58 years with nothing in real and concrete terms to show for it! Nigeria remains a pillaged nation; a giant, basking lazily and indolently in the sun!
My message this month is however not of woes, but of hope and assurance. As King David said in the Bible passage for this month, there is a river, whose streams shall make glad the city of the Lord. Nigeria, I prophesy into your life this dawn of a new year for you, the Lord will turn around your bondage from within and without. He will send your prodigal sons and daughters away from your breast and give you a new dawn. In spite of the hues and cries in the land, you shall not be moved. God will help you and that right early. I am confident that your captivity shall be turned around very soon and in my lifetime. It is well with our land.
On a personal note, I speak into the lives of those reading this message; the Lord of host is with you. The God of Jacob is your refuge and strength. He will bring your mountains low and fill up your valleys.
The Lord bless and keep you. May He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
PRAYER
1. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
The Lord of hosts is with you; the God of Jacob is your refuge. The river, whose streams make glad city of the Lord will flow in your life this month, God will tabernacle over you and bring you help right early. Happy new month to you and Happy Independence Anniversary to Nigeria.
