2 Kings 4: 1 – 7
Memory Verse: “And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then
pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” 2 Kings 4: 4
The grace of God takes us from a state of absolute lack to a condition of great abundance. What is required of us is to have faith in God and put our faith into action. This statement came into graphic reality in the life of ‘a certain woman of wives of “the sons of the Prophets”, who came to Elisha concerning the issue of the indebtedness of her late husband and that the creditor is about to take her two sons away as slaves, as recorded in the reference passage of the month’s Message of Grace.
Prophet Elisha asked what she had in her house. Imagine, what that kind of question is that? This is a woman who is distressed and overwhelmed with debts. If she had anything, wouldn’t she have used it to settle the debt? However, she spoke truthfully about her lack, that she was so poor that she had only a jar of oil in her house. What did she expect Elisha to do with that? She spoke, knowing she had nothing to lose and having faith in God that He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
Then the Word of the Lord came to her: “Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few” Having done so, she was instructed to lock herself and her children inside their house and begin to pour from the only bottle of oil into the jars. This she did obediently and the result was incredible abundance! This also reminds me of the story of the widow of Zarephath, who also obeyed the word of God through Elijah during a severe famine. She did as she was told by Elijah to: first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’’ She obeyed, put her faith in action and indeed the jar of floor was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry throughout the period of famine in the Lord.” 1 Kings 17:13-14 (NIV)
The word of God comes to us in the same manner this month of December, of a year like no other in experience in the world. What with the pandemic combined with economic recession, both of which have brought serious hardship to many in the land? Let us put our faith into action as the Lord will direct. Enlarge your tent and go all out. Whatever your situation or circumstances, get not a few jars, get as many as you have the capacity and room for. God is about to do great things in your life before the close of the year. The Word of God is also saying that this will carry through and on throughout the New Year 2021. Put your faith into action and incredible testimonies will accompany you throughout the coming year in Jesus mighty name.
May the Lord bless and keep you. May He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
