Genesis 1: 26 -31
Memory Verses: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7
God is life and finding God is to live. The purpose of man is to find God and be in intimate communion and relationship with him. Man can only find God if he has faith in Him. Then he will have life and have it abundantly. When you walk in intimate relationship with God, ‘he rewards you’ and you find your life’s purpose.
Purpose is not found in what we do, but in who we are. So the question is, who are we? We were formed and created by God so that we can walk with Him and have an intimate relationship with Him in our daily pursuits in life. As John Piper said, ‘The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever’. You do not work to have life, rather you have life and can live life to its fullness by walking in close relationship with God.
However, we will not be able to do this if we do not keep God’s commands. God created Adam, not just to tend the Garden of Eden, but to walk with Him in intimate fellowship and communion. Adam’s life purpose is not to be a gardener; “work is a result of life, not the purpose and meaning of life”. Fellowship with God was Adam’s purpose, whilst tending the Garden was his assignment. When we fulfil our purpose by spending time with God, we get everything we need to accomplish our assignment in life. “Creativity in life comes out of communion with God, because creativity is God’s life force which releases new potentials and new things to man in communion with Him.”* God has provided all we need for life and being in communion with Him releases all these to us and we are able to have life in abundance.
Sin separated man from God, as it happened to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Forgetting that the purpose for their creation is to bring pleasure to God, they lost focus because they wanted to be like God, rather than be content with being with God, in intimacy with Him..
The conclusion of the matter is, we have to understand that we were made by God to be with Him, enjoy and walk with Him. As such we should realize that “Everything flows out of intimacy with Him. Purpose, meaning, goals, even creativity all are a result of our relationship with God and they are enhanced by the time we spend with Him. Note that true nature of God is ‘I am, not I do’. Without God, we can do nothing. We are human beings, and not human doing. As such we must learn how to be”*.
God’s real purpose for our lives as His children is not in what we do, be it secular or spiritual. It is not our Ministry or work, it is intimacy with God. We were made in His image for His glory and pleasure. Let’s us rest in Him and not run through life without realising the essence of our life. God is the essence of life. When you spend time with God, you will discover and fulfil your purpose.

Prayer: Dear Father God, grant me the grace to work from rest by resting on you in intimacy and close relationship in Jesus mighty name I pray.
