Memory Verse: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul …. being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Hebrews 6:19 & Philippians 1:6
What is hope? It is the expectation of a better future in the face of seeming helplessness and frustration. It is believing in God that He will perfect His counsel for our lives and do that which he has promised in His Word to do. It is ‘the confident expectation of what God has promised, and its strength is in His faithfulness’.
The current situation in Nigeria and indeed the world calls for divine intervention.
The world is in dire straights and there is practically no country that not affected. Is it the galloping inflation or the huge price of fuel? What about the cost of food, gas, electricity and so on in Nigeria? The value of money has so much been degraded that salaries cannot take anyone home these days. The people are going though serious pain and agony. In Nigeria, University students have been home for over eight months now, due to strike action embarked upon by their lecturers. Government and the Academic of Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have not been able to find a common front, despite various engagements and interventions by many concerned people across the nation. We are indeed in a state of anomie.
However, this month I want to encourage us with the quotes from Hebrew 6:19 and Philippians 1:6 above. The Lord has indeed begun a good work in us and has promised to bring it into full conclusion, even unto the day of Jesus Christ. So, we have this hope in God’s intervention and we should anchor our souls on it. Let your anchor hold and the storms will not overwhelm you.
So how do we keep from getting overwhelmed? The answer is contained in the song ‘The Haven of Rest’ written by H. L. Gilmour. The refrain of the song simply says “I’ve anchored my soul in the haven of rest, I’ll sail the wide seas no more; The tempest may sweep o’er the wild stormy deep, In Jesus I’m safe evermore.” Jesus Christ is the safe haven of rest, where you should anchor your soul. As a child of God, for your soul to stay anchored, you need to stay focused and be careful what you confess. Confess the Words of God as He has spoken into the situation and be rest assured. He is faithful to perform what He has said to you. Do not fret like an unbeliever, but stay at peace and rest in Him, and He will carry to completion the good work He has begun in your life.
However, perchance you are not yet a child of God. That is, you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour. Then you need to do this right away so you can have your anchor hooked to the haven of rest. The way to do this is to speak the following words and genuinely mean it: Lord Jesus, I come to you today in penitence and I confess my sins. Please have mercy on me, forgive and bring me into the company of your beloved. I give my life to you right now and confess that you are the Son of God who came to give me eternal life and salvation. Please accept me as your son and let me receive your salvation. Thank you, Lord, for answering my prayers. As you make this confession and sincerely mean it, you immediately become a child of God. The next step is for you to locate a Bible believing Church and start attending. If you require guidance in this respect, please do not hesitate to call me. The Lord bless you as you do.
May the Lord bless and keep you.
May He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, May
the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you for the hope of rest I have I you. Please keep me safe in your have of rest and let the good work you started in me come to full fruition. Amen.
