Bible Passage(s): Ephesians 1:1 – 23
Memory Verse: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe ..” Eph 1:17 - 19
April is the month of reconciliation and restoration! It is the month when we remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
By His death, Jesus once and for all offered Himself as a sacrifice for mankind; thus bringing to an end the Jewish ritual of the sacrifice of lambs and sheep for the remission of our sins. He paid the price to reconcile and restore us to His Father, our Father and our God.
Man lost the opportunity of fellowship and communion with God through the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. However, God immediately put in place a plan to redeem and restore man unto Himself. This He did by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die, so that we may live and fulfill His ordained purpose.
Last month we pointed out that the purpose of God for mankind is for him to have dominion over all His creation. In Genesis 1:26, God decided to “make man in Our image”, so that he will have “dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth”. So the consequence of fruitfulness and multiplication is dominion and the outcome of dominion is purpose. Purpose is the sine qua non for dominion! Life cannot be lived to its full essence without being driven by purpose. But purpose cannot be fulfilled without a heart of giving. God showed us the example of giving in His Son Jesus Christ, whom He gave for us. We are thus able to celebrate Easter because “…..God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” – Romans 5:8. What a demonstration of love! We need to do the same. Your giving has to go beyond self and get to a point where you strive to be a blessing to others by the pursuit of a cause of general good - a cause that is ‘greater than you’. My prayer for you this month is that God will give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, so that the eyes of your understanding will be enlightened and you will know the hope of His calling upon your life and the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints and you will fulfill the purpose for which He has created you, Amen.
The past month has been a difficult one for our world. What with the tsunami in Japan and its attendant serious negative effects on the region, and the unrest and ongoing civil war in the Arab nations, particularly Libya, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain. Therefore, as we celebrate Easter, we must not fail to remember these nations in our prayers, asking God to bring peace and tranquility to them. Pray for the suffering people of Japan and ask the Lord to succor them and help them to come out of their sad experience a stronger and more united nation under God.
On the home front, April is the month of decision for Nigeria as we go to the polls again to elect new political leaders. Let us pray for peace and ask the Lord to choose for us leaders who will rule in His fear and admonition. Go out and cast your vote. As you do this, use this poem by Josiah Gilbert Holland to focus your prayers for Nigeria:
God Give Us Men:
A time like this demand
Strong minds, great hearts,
True faith and ready hands.
Men, whom the lust of office does not kill,
Men, whom the spoils of office cannot buy.
Men, who possess opinions and a will.
Men, who have honour; men, who will not lie,
Men, who can stand before a demagogue
And demand his treacherous flatteries without winking.
Tall men, sun-crowned; who live above the fog
In public duty and in private thinking.
May the Lord answer our prayers in Jesus name, Amen.
The Lord bless and keep you, May He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
Have a wonderful month.
