Bible Passage: Jeremiah 18: 1 - 9
Memory Verse; ‘Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot do with you as this potter? saith the Lord, Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.’ Jeremiah 18: 5 - 6
This month, the Lord wants to bring us into a new life and a new beginning. You may wonder what this means when you consider that the year 2016 is almost at an end. A new beginning? Yes a month of reformation!
The Lord says as the clay is in the potter’s (God’s) hands, so are you in mine hand to do as it pleases me. If the clay (you) was marred in the hand of the potter, he makes (reforms) it again into another vessel, as deemed good to him (God).
You may want to ask what is responsible for the clay being marred in the hand of the potter. Our sins and disobedience are the major culprits! Earlier in Jeremiah 17: 20 – 23, God made allusion to the sins of the people of Judah, they did not obey His instructions and so in Chapter 18, verses 1 – 9, he used the allegory of the potter and the clay, saying what He will do to them if they obey His words, (Jeremiah 17: Verses 24 – 26). The same word comes to us individuals and as a nation; if we diligently harken to His voice and forsake our wicked ways, He will ‘repent of the evil that I thought to do to them’, remould and reform us as the potter does to clay that is marred in his hands.
The month of November has the potential to be a new beginning and a new dawn for us, only if we diligently harken and obey. In the same vein, the Lord has also promised to look down from heaven and heal our land. It is however our responsibility to ensure that we make ourselves holy and acceptable to the Lord, through our obedience, sacrifice and holy living. See what He says will happen to us in this month of a new beginning, if we do this: ‘Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain forever. And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the Lord. ‘Jeremiah 17: 25 -26
The Lord bless and keep you. May He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen. Have a joyous month of total reformation.
O Lord make this a month of new beginnings for me and my house hold. Make it a month in which we will enjoin a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. - Isaiah 25:6
