Bible Passage: Psalm 100

Memory Verse:   "It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp." Psalm 92:1-3 NIV

Every time we approach the end of a year, we always have the tendency to look back and appraise our lives and consider how far we have come. Many times we focus on the negative; what we have not achieved; the mountains we could not climb; our failures, inadequacies and shortcomings. In the process, we forget to recount those things that the Lord did for us, the many dangers and perils from which He delivered us. The numerous journey mercies, the near misses! Some went through difficult periods and great challenges. What about breakthroughs, elevations and promotions, healings (of ourselves and our families)?

Memory Verse:

" I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance." Luke 15:7 NKJV.

In the book of Luke chapter 15, Jesus Christ gave three parables to explain why He was associating with some groups of people who were despised in the society of those times. In particular, the Scribes and Pharisees, found it offensive for Jesus to be associating with tax collectors, who were condemned as sinners because of the nature of their work. The particular story in verses 1 to 7, speaks of His response; concerning the lost sheep for which the shepherd had to leave the other sheep to find. And having found it, the shepherd threw a party, rejoicing, saying: rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' (Luke 15:6) The moral of this story, as concluded by Jesus Christ is that, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

Bible Passage: 3 John 1 - 4
Memory Verse: \"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. \" 3 John 2-3

According to Macmillan English Dictionary, to prosper means 'to be successful, especially by making a lot of money, or to grow and do well'. In essence, when you are very rich and successful, you are deemed to be prosperous.

Bible Passage: Mark 12: 28 - 31
Memory Verse: \"The most important one,\" answered Jesus, \"is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.\" Mark 12:29-31

The above scripture is the response of Jesus to a question by one of the teachers of the law, concerning which one out of the ten commandments is the greatest. This is a twofold summary of the entire Ten Commandment, centering on love; love of God and love of our neighbors. The first commandment given by Jesus in this scripture summarizes the first four of the Ten Commandments, whilst the second is the essence of the remaining six, which relates to the treatment of other people.

Bible Passage: Luke 15: 11 - 24
Memory Verse: \"These things says He who is holy, He who is true, \"He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens\": \"I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.'' Revelation 3: 7 - 8.

A few days ago, I was in discussions at the breakfast table with my family and the issue of lost opportunities came up. Then the Lord put in my mind that God is a God of unending opportunities.

Bible Passage: Esther 4: 1-17
Memory Verse: \"Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?\" Esther 4; 13-14 NIV

The Times In Which We Live

These are excerpts from my welcome address at the 2nd Grace Foundation Day Lecture on the topic; Child Trafficking: Creating a Hopeless Future for the Future Leaders delivered by the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan on 16th May 2014. I wish to share it with you my readers as my message to you this month.

The Grace Of God

Bible Passage: 2 Kings 12: 1-15

Memory Verse: ''Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your loving kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.'' Psalm 51: 1 - 2 NKJV

The Grace of God continues to baffle me. Each time I ponder on it, I cannot totally grasp its full depth and ramifications. The story in the Bible passage for this month is very apt to discuss the grace phenomenon. The story was told by Prophet Nathan to David as a metaphor to underline David's sin and cause him to, with his own mouth, pass judgement upon himself. Earlier on in Chapter 11, David committed the grievous sin of adultery and premeditated murder.

Knowing Him and the Power of His Resurrection

Bible Passage: Philippians 3: 7 - 11

Memory Verse: ''that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.'' Phil 3:10-11 NKJV

This is the month of Easter; the month we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I daresay this is the month of faith reaffirmed; when we reconfirm that our faith in Christ not in vain. As Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians Chapter 15 verses 13-14 ''..... if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty''. So as we celebrate Easter,

Bible Passage: Ezekiel 12: 21 – 28

Memory Verse: ''Say to them, 'The days are near when every vision will be fulfilled. For there will be no more false visions or flattering divination among the people of Israel. But I the LORD will speak what I will, and it shall be fulfilled without delay. For in your days, you rebellious house, I will fulfill whatever I say, declares the Sovereign LORD. NIV'' Ezekiel 12:23-25

This is a season of God's visitation to mankind! He is visiting us both individually, collectively as a nation and the whole world in general. It is expected that this will be accompanied with signs and wonders. As such, in this season, we have to be sensitive to the spirit of the Lord and play our part.

Bible Passage(s): Exodus 3: 1 – 9

Memory Verse: "And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows." Exodus 3:7

As we enter into the year of Remembrance, we come this month to review our past and all that we might have gone through, or what we are experiencing right now. Some of us may feel like the children of Israel; that we are in a bondage of some sort, under certain taskmasters. Taskmasters come in different guises.
